Availability: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis Counties.

Eligibility: Able-bodied adult caregivers ages 18 to 60 with dependents receiving public assistance through TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families).

Program Description: MFIP is a Work First focused program designed to assist public assistance recipients and enhance their efforts so they can successfully transition from Welfare-to-Work.

A structured job search coupled with a Work First training curriculum, Job Club support network, and Resume development, prepares individuals for and emphasizes the importance and values of work.

Complementing that format is Employment and Training's venue of Adult Basic Education, Lives in Transition, Employment Resource Centers, Vocational Evaluation, Supported Work Experience Program, and placement activities that address traditional barriers to employment.

Supportive service monies are utilized to address childcare, transportation, and work-related costs that could be impediments to employment.  As recipients face a five-year time limit on receiving public assistance benefits, the program utilizes intensive one-on-one and group initiatives and counseling to facilitate participant success and self-sufficiency.  Follow-up is provided to support job retention and reduce program recidivism.
